Reversing Type 2 Diabetes and Getting  Meditative on Splurge Friday

At a little after 5 am, I head out for my usual ride.  The garage door opens and off I go.  I sometimes compare it to the Batmobile leaving the Bat Cave.  (The Bat Bike?)

It’s quiet at that time, mostly, but there are a surprising number of people out riding the bike as I do or jogging or even just walking the dog.

We pass each other and wave or say hello.  I have no idea who they are and they have no idea who I am.  What goes through my head most is why are they there?  Why are they doing this when they could be in bed getting an extra hour or so of sleep?

Is it all just for the exercise?  For me that’s one reason.  Exercising the pet could be another one.  Our cat is still asleepon our bed. Trust me, she is not interested in exercise.

Me, I do it for the exercise and usual health reasons, but there is another reason.   The ride becomes my own special me time.  I get relaxed, odd as that may seem.

There is something meditative about getting into a rhythm I strangely look forward to.  The breathing rate, the heart rate, the movement of the legs, all seem to all seem to come together after a few minutes to form a kind of deep-thought state.  I think about things.  Thoughts bubble up and I cogitate on them.  I work out issues, come with plans to get something done or have little Walter Middy moments.  My favorite is pulling out and winning a leg on the Tour de France.  That’s usually when I have swerve to avoid somebodies dog or slow down to avoid a car on a cross street.

I have read often that we are generally a sleep deprived society.  That is probably true.  I also think we are a quiet time deprived society, a period to just contemplate and let the brain go where it will.

Now back to reality.

The Numbers:

  • Fasting Blood Glucose Level:  99 mg/dl.  Make it by this much
  • Weight:  185 lbs.  Wow.
  • Exercise:  45 minute ride.
  • Moo:  8.0.  Hey, it’s Splurge Friday!

The Menu:

  • Breakfast:  Leftover pizza, one slice, and the usual morning fruit medley.  Lord, I am so boring.
  • Lunch:  Salad
  • Dinner:  It’s Splurge Friday,  Tex-Mex.
  • Snacks:  None.
